Your Weekly Dose of Elevating Your Speaking Skills Newsletter
Ever feel like technology has its own plan, separate from yours? Just me?
Last week, my computer threw a tantrum. I chalked it up to solar flares, temporal anomalies, or possibly even alien signal interference—because obviously, it couldn't be due to the 187 tabs I had open or that my PC hadn't been rebooted since the days 'BC' (Before Covid).
Turns out, my trusty machine had reached its breaking point. There I was, my weekend hijacked, scouring local stores for a suitable successor that could live up to my tech guru's lofty standards.
Long story short, that tech meltdown is why you're receiving this edition a day late. My apologies!
I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one who's had a day derailed by a digital disaster. Am I right?
This is edition #5. We’re still getting our feet under us, but just know we’re committed to bringing you valuable content each week which will hopefully inspire, motivate and move you to elevate your speaking skills as well as your speaking business development skills.

Getting Your Message Just Right: The Casual Guide to Making It Stick
Whether you're speaking, coaching, creating content, or launching your next big venture, the clarity and impact of your message really matter. It's not just about what you say but how you say it and how it vibes with your audience. Spending time fine-tuning your message isn't just helpful; it's crucial. You want your message to be a guiding light, leading people to understand, act, or change in the ways you're hoping for. Here’s a down-to-earth guide on how to make your message hit home every time.
1. Keep It Super Clear Start by boiling your message down to its purest form. What's the one thing you want people to remember? Stick with this core idea to keep your message strong and focused.
2. Know Who You’re Talking To Different strokes for different folks, right? Get to really know your audience. What do they want? What scares them? Mold your message to meet them right where they are. When your message speaks directly to your audience, it lands better.
3. Keep It Simple Don’t complicate things. The clearer your message, the easier it is for people to get it. Simplify your words and break down big ideas. Simple doesn’t mean shallow; it means accessible.
4. Tell a Story Nothing sticks like a good story. Embed your key points in stories that are easy to relate to. Use real, touch-the-heart kind of tales that make your message not just heard, but felt.
5. Use Feedback Like a Pro Feedback is your best friend. Share your message with a few trusted folks or a slice of your audience and see what they think. Their reactions and advice can help you polish your message till it shines.
6. Practice Makes Perfect A great message deserves a great delivery. Practice how you present—play around with your tone, your speed, and how you emphasize things. The right delivery can make a good message great.
7. Stay Fresh Keep tweaking your message. As things change—the world, your audience, you—your message should evolve too. Stay open to making it better over time.
8. Visuals for the Win Think about visuals that can back up your message. Maybe it’s a slide, a chart, or a simple image. Visuals can make complex ideas stick better and help people remember them.
9. Aim for Transformation Every part of your message should aim to inspire some kind of change. Whether it's a new way of thinking, a call to action, or a deeper understanding, make sure your message drives home the transformation you want to see.
Action Step: Try It Out Take a piece of your message and apply these tips. Maybe start with a story or simplify some complex part. See how it changes the reactions you get.
Your Message, Your Symphony Think of refining your message like composing music. Each word, each pause has a purpose. This isn’t just about making sure your message is heard—it’s about making sure it moves people to action.
So, what’s your key message, and how will you refine it? Give it a go, and watch your words make waves!

Captivate & Connect
Engagement Over Script: Making Every Word Count with Your Audience
When it comes to public speaking, coaching, or creating content, there’s a game-changing approach that can turn your presentation from informative to unforgettable: focus more on engaging with your audience rather than just delivering your script. This shift from striving for perfection to prioritizing connection, understanding, and interaction can transform your delivery into something truly impactful. Here's how you can put this audience-first approach into action and make your presentations more dynamic and engaging.
Understanding the Shift Often, we focus too much on perfecting our delivery—memorizing every line, hitting every cue. While nailing your script is great, it can sometimes disconnect you from your audience. The real magic happens when you shift your focus to actively engaging with your audience, making your session feel more like a conversation and less like a lecture.
1. Reading the Room Start by getting good at reading the room. Pay attention to how your audience is reacting. Are they hooked, confused, or maybe checking their phones? Use their reactions to adjust your pace, tone, and even the direction of your talk. This makes your presentation more responsive and keeps everyone more connected.
2. Foster a Two-Way Conversation Make your presentation a two-way street. Ask questions, invite opinions, or use interactive elements like polls to turn your monologue into a dialogue. This involvement makes your audience feel like they're part of the conversation, not just spectators.
3. Customize on the Fly Have a plan, but be ready to tweak it as you go. If a particular point is really resonating, dive deeper. If something’s not landing, be ready to move on. This shows you’re paying attention to what’s working for your audience right now.
4. Use Relatable Examples Use stories or examples that mirror your audience's experiences or challenges. This not only makes your message more relatable but also simplifies complex ideas, making them easier to grasp and remember.
5. Prioritize Clarity and Conciseness Keep it clear and to the point. Bombarding your audience with too much info can be overwhelming. Focus on delivering clear, concise points and use stories or examples that reinforce these without adding unnecessary complexity.
6. Embrace Spontaneity Don't be afraid to go off-script if the moment calls for it. Sharing a spontaneous story or commenting on something timely can make your presentation feel more genuine and engaging.
7. Eye Contact and Body Language Don’t underestimate the power of non-verbal communication. Maintain eye contact and use open body language to show your audience you’re engaged and open to interaction. These small cues make a big difference in how connected your audience feels.
8. Feedback Loops Regularly check in with your audience during your presentation. Simple questions like “Does that make sense?” help you gauge understanding and make adjustments on the spot. Afterward, consider sending out a quick feedback survey to learn what hit the mark and what didn’t.
Engage to Transform By shifting your focus to audience engagement, you elevate your presentations from simple information sessions to engaging, memorable experiences. It’s about being present, responsive, and genuinely connected with your audience. This isn’t just about teaching; it’s about creating an interactive learning environment.
Action Step: Pick one of your upcoming presentations or talks. Apply these tips to shift the focus towards engaging your audience more actively. Start with adjusting your opening to include a question or interactive element that draws your audience in from the start. Watch how this small change can transform the energy and impact of your presentation.
Remember, the most memorable presentations leave the audience feeling engaged, understood, and inspired. Let’s make that your standard.

From Podium to Profit: Podcaster Revenue Roadmap - Avoid Common Mistakes
Alright, buckle up, folks. We're diving into the gritty world of podcasting, and let me tell you, it's not for the faint of heart. Now, I've seen some people jump into this game thinking it's all rainbows and unicorns, but they're making some serious mistakes that'll leave them in the dust. It's time to toughen up and tackle these obstacles head-on. Let's get after it.
First off, let's talk about being too damn general. Are you just skimming the surface, afraid to get your hands dirty? Well, that's not gonna cut it. Your audience wants real, raw content that hits them like a sledgehammer. Get specific, people. Choose a niche and own it. None of this wishy-washy, vanilla stuff. Go deep, go hard, or go home.
Next up, we've got a classic rookie error: not facing the microphone. Seriously? You're trying to deliver a message, and you're not even facing the damn mic? That's weak, my friends. Strap that thing on like it's your lifeline and speak directly into it. No excuses, no shortcuts. If you're not giving it your all, then why bother?
Now, let's talk about sloppy recordings. You think your audience wants to hear you coughing, sneezing, and wheezing through your podcast? Hell no. Tighten up your game, people. Invest in some decent equipment, and for the love of all that's holy, edit your damn recordings. It's not rocket science, it's called taking pride in your work.
Ah, rambling. The bane of every podcast listener's existence. You think you can just wing it and everything will magically fall into place? Wrong. It takes discipline, it takes focus, and yeah, it takes a script. Plan your content, stick to the script, and don't waste your audience's time with aimless chatter. Get to the point or get out of the way.
And finally, echoes during interviews. Seriously, folks? You're conducting interviews, and you can't even manage to avoid echoes? That's amateur hour. Get yourself some damn headphones, plug 'em in, and take control of the situation. Your guests deserve better, and so does your audience.
So, there you have it, soldiers. Podcasting ain't for the weak-minded. It's a battle, a relentless pursuit of excellence. Avoid these mistakes, toughen up, and keep pushing forward. Success isn't for the timid, it's for the relentless. Now get out there and dominate the airwaves.
Now, for those of you who are serious about stepping up your podcasting game, it's time to take action. Don't just nod along with this advice; implement it.
Here's what you need to do:
Commit to Your Niche: Stop playing it safe. Dive deep into a niche that you're passionate about. Your audience wants expertise, not generalities. Own your space and dominate it.
Mic Technique Matters: Treat your microphone like your best friend. Face it directly, speak clearly, and invest in quality equipment. Your voice is your tool; make sure it's heard loud and clear.
Quality Over Quantity: Don't sacrifice quality for quantity. Invest in good recording equipment and editing software. Your audience deserves a professional listening experience, free from distractions like background noise and coughing fits.
Script It Out: Don't underestimate the power of a well-crafted script. An outline of talking points will suffice. Plan your content meticulously, stick to your key points, and cut out the fluff. Your listeners' time is precious; don't waste it with aimless rambling.
Interview Etiquette: If you're conducting interviews, eliminate echoes and background noise. Invest in headphones and ensure a quiet environment. Your guests and audience will thank you for the clear, crisp sound quality.
Alright, my podcasting warriors, listen up. The path to success in podcasting can be rugged and unforgiving. It demands dedication, hard work, and a relentless attitude towards learning from your mistakes. So, take these words to heart, implement them today, and let your voice shine in the podcasting world. Don't let fear or excuses hold you back. Toughen up, dominate the airwaves, and show the world what you're truly made of. Success isn't for the timid; it's reserved for the relentless. Now, go out there and seize it.
